Blog reflection on AED 200

1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met?
I wanted to learn more about art and why it was so important to our culture. I felt like they were some what met, but not completely.
2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your intial posting? I feel that art is a statement of emotion or polotics and anything within the soul. I feel that it is just an extension of my first statement.
3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?
My Favorite artist are still Matthew Barney and Alex Pardee. I think because I can relate to them more, and I like there use of mixed media.
4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?
I feel that I would still take an online course, but one that is less modules, and less work because I feel like I didn't have time to learn enough about any artist or concept because of the pace of the work.

Reflection on Exhibit

Blog Reflection Submission Requirements:

Answer the Following Questions:

1. Which projects did you review?I reviewed "The Beauty in the Darkness" by Mary McDonough

2. Why did you select the Exhibit you critiqued?
I thought that the works that she picked were all unique and interesting, and that her perspective was great on what she thought the subject matters were for each work.

3. What challenges did you face in writing the critique article and how did you overcome them?
trying to figure out if all the works looked like they fit with one another, because when using mixed medias it's hard to say if they do or don't. I just thought about if I could see them placed side by side at a gallery.

4. How do you feel about critiquing your peers work?
I feel okay about it, its a learning process.

5. Would you like to read the critique your peers wrote about your Art Curation Project?
Sure, I'd like to know about what they thought of my exhibit.

6. On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate your finished article and why?
I would rate my work a 9. I think I did well at picking out the best works and stating why I liked them, I also gave feed back on what didn't work so well.

7. Did you enjoy working on this project?
yes.

Journal

I flet this project was harder than it seemed. I don't feel as though all these works fit together but I wanted to pick uniques colorful works, that I liked. I feel like surrealism is so large it hard to find pieces that all work together because they are all so different.

Movie Review

11.For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
-       From the critic movie I learned that critics help people see and become interested in music, movies, art, tv ect. Their job is to give knowledge and background perspective on a work.
-       From the second movie about Pollock I learned that critics could have conflicting views based on the time period, the political statement and even the current culture they live in.
2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Criticism project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.
- I think the critic movie will help me understand how to look at a work and better understand it, also I feel it will help me give better feed back.
- Think It helps because it can make you understand more why peoples views on different art differs from maybe your own. Also it gives a better understanding that people are not always going to like all of your art.
3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of art criticism?
- Yes and no. I don’t really think readers should take too much consideration of a critics point of view because in the end it’s just an opinion, and something they might not like for whatever reason someone may love and think its genius

Module 13&14 Movie Review

1.For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
- The first video I learned about what low brow art is based off of many different things from tattooing to porn, and how it’s more of a culture than anything else and that it was formed to spite the snobby art culture.
- The second movie I learned that in the Tate museum and how art is set up there. That is should be set up by movements and the past to the present.
- I found the third movie really interesting because I knew nothing about the laws regarding archeology or any native American burial grounds and how upset that this must of made native Americans feel.
-In the 4th video I found it interesting that it has to go through a series of people to then be placed in the gallery.
2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.
- The first movie relates to my project because it talks about how lowbrow is also surrealism, which is basically the theme of my project. Also it gave me for ideas on more artists to use for my project.
-The second movie just made me keep in mind that I should maybe see how during different time periods how surrealism changes.
- The third movie might relate to my project in looking at history around the works I choose and how it might of made people feel or be attached to cultures.
- I think this helps with my project in the sense that what will people think of the works will it actually fit, and I can also choose pieces I like or think tie in with my project.
3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project?
I really liked all the films; I felt that they gave me a better understanding about different types of art and how they were formed. I felt it helped me learn more about how art galleries are set up and why. I thought it was weird that for the 4th video everything went through one man, because my sister did PR for cuartion and she said it has to do with social and economical aspects for where you are choosing the art to go, not just what you find interesting.

Mod 12 Video Review Questions

1    1.Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
--       I chose the expression of 50’s and 60’s pop art because I wanted to know more information about these eras.
-       I chose Uncertainty because I thought it was interesting how culture and ideas change because of art and different time periods.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
- One concept I learned was abstract art is usually the feeling of the tile, also that it defies the proper elements of art, it is pure expression, and is meant for the viewer to look at the title then the work and think of it as emotion or memory. I learned from the second movie that art and invoke emotions and cultural changes and this works both ways, that cultural changes can change art, and its hard to predict what the change will be and when.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
-I think the videos related to the book because it talks about the major concepts, but goes into more detail and more examples of the types of art. Also it shows you more art and artist of these times.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
- I thought the films were interesting, I felt they created a more in-depth look than the book did. I also felt they used more examples to explain that the text did.
