Project 2 Gallery Visit

1. Untitled 1952 Silkscreen Private Collection Brooklyn NY

A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
     - This made an impression on me because it was things that I knew what they were but placed in an abstract way. I thought the use of shading made it even more interesting, and made me thing of looking at the world upside down.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
   - I feel connected to this artwork because I can recognize the concept behind it. I feel that it is more of a perspective thing.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
I would like to know who actually made it. It had no artists name.

2. Kelly Richardson Twilight Avenger 2008 single video channel video instillation

A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
- I found this to be so cool. I loved the concept of the radioactive deer, and the fact that it was really footage that was then digitalized, the colors were amazing.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
I feel connected to the environmental message behind this, and found it cool that she left the forest normal, and only made the deer effected.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
I would like to know more about how this process works, with video art. The video art just seems so unique and involve a higher level of thinking.
3. Lawrence Calcagno Evening Game, watercolor on paper
A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
- I really liked this work, I really liked that the artist used black almost as a color instead of a shadow. Sometimes black can take away from colors, but I feel that this really makes your eyes more around the work more. It also reminded me of flowers.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
I felt a connection to this because it felt so random, I couldn't form a pattern and I really thought that was cool that it didn't look perfect.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
I would like to know why he made this and what his inspiration was. I feel that it would show a strong connection to why he made this.
4. Dorothy Dehner Mirage (Bolton Landing) ink and water color on paper.
A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
- I thought this piece was really interesting, because of the location is in New York, also because it looked like architecture.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
- felt a connection with the use of light soft colors, I felt it was a work that was looked over a lot because it was not a bold and loud. I found it to be peaceful and the use of line to be the focal point
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
I want to know what she picked this part of New York and what she didn't color the entire thing.
5. Pablo Picasso Harlequin Project of Monument Oil on Canvas
A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
I liked the use of shapes and color. I am really drawn to abstract art and I felt this was a great work.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
I felt a connection because it seemed so happy, with the bright bold colors and features that looked like eyes and a mouth. It just made me laugh.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
I would like to know what in this time period made him inspired to do this, why such bold loud color? and why these shapes?
6. Roy Lichtenstien Head oil on canvas
A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
At first I  thought this was a print, then I looked closer, I really thought it was simple, but loud and in your face.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
I feel the connection, because it reminded me of comic books, and a little of Jackie Kennedy. I like the use of dits to show texture and the white to highlight features.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
I would like to know who it is based off of and which only yellow, red and white were used.

  1. I like that you included one of the video installation pieces in your blog. I didn't see the deer video on my first trip, but only when I went to the art gallery the next week with my work. I chose to talk about the "Mariner 9," which was the one that looked like a scene on Mars. I really liked these videos and found them really interesting. It must have taken so much time to piece all of the elements together and give them all of the special effects.

  2. I almost wrote about the Twilight Avenger, I really liked that piece and I almost wrote about it, but decided to use a different one. I like that you also decided to use mixed medias and not just all of one type. You did a really good job reflected and relating to all of the pieces, I really liked reviewing your blog.

  3. I really enjoyed the fact that all the pieces in your collection are a different medium. I agree that the Twilight Avenger piece is really cool. The piece jumps out at you and there is a heavy emphasis on the green deer. The color of the deer is abnormal which increased my curiosity.
